Ink making: Oak gall ink (iron gall): Crush oak galls (wasp-induced growths on oak trees). Soak in water 3-7 days. Add iron sulfate (copperas) — equal weight to galls. Add gum arabic (tree sap) for flow. Strain. Result: permanent black ink that darkens with age. Used for 1,500+ years. Waterproof when dry. Works on paper, parchment, vellum.

Simple telegraph: Battery (any DC source) + wire (any conductor) + switch (key) + electromagnet (coil around nail) + sounder (metal strip attracted by electromagnet).
